Stem cell-richbone marrow aspirate (BMA) is a cutting-edge and advanced form of regenerative medicine used to accelerate healing in moderate to severe osteoarthritis and tendon injuries. BMA is the fluid taken from bone marrow, and when used in cellular therapy, the concentrated stem cells within the fluid promote healing and tissue regeneration. At Regenerative Aesthetics & Lasers NW we offer BMA therapy to our patients to provide more rapid healing and repair of damaged tissues.
What Is the Main Benefit of Bone Marrow Aspirate (BMA)?
BMA consists of adult stem cells, also known as mesenchymal stem cells, that live within our body. As we age however, we have less of these cells available to go to the site of injury and begin repair, which is why injuries become more severe and crippling as we get older. Similar to unmined gold, these bone marrowstem cells are just waiting to be extracted for healing purposes. They are invaluable because they possess the ability to replicate into multiple different tissue types. Studies have shown that BMA treatment can reduce swelling and inflammation, relieve pain, and improve healing time.
What Can I Expect During a BMA Treatment?
At Regenerative Aesthetics & Lasers NW our goal is to promote healing naturally, by hopefully avoiding a major surgery. During our bone marrow aspirate (BMA) treatment you’ll have a minimally invasive procedure to obtain the BMA. We always put the comfort our patients first, so you should feel little if any discomfort, since we will numb the area. Our doctor will obtain a sample of bone marrow, which will be removed with a needle and syringe. That sample will be spun down in a centrifuge to separate the cells. Once the cells have separated, the liquid with a high concentration of cells is then injected directly into the site of injury or chronic pain (knee, shoulder, hip, etc.) to begin the healing process.
